Me time

Published by *Beckie* under Musings Edit This

So here it is…5:30pm where I am.  I am still in my pajamas people.  This makes me happy.Today, I am protesting going anywhere or doing anything.  Why?  Because, I can.  I am a firm believer in “me time.”  This is time where you do nothing but pamper yourself.  I don’t know many people who have hours upon hours to just pamper themselves.  But, when a moment comes upon you, you have to take it.  What kind of moment?  Any.

Every now and again, I’ll catch a wiff of Amber Romance (a scent by Victoria Secrets) and I’ll literally close my eyes for a moment.  What is it about this scent?  Years ago, when I lived in Kansas City, I stayed in a hotel for almost 8 weeks on a work related trip.  I used that scent for my shower gel, my boday spray and my body lotion.  My hotel room smelled of it all the time.  When I smell the scent, it takes me back to a place in my life where I felt successful- where nothing could touch me.  For me, Amber Romance is my own personal scent of success.

Now that’s just an example…..but moments for “me time” can also be created.  Get some of your favorite chocolate….and stash it away.  Save it for “me time.”  What am I talking about?  When you get stressed out, or just feel like you are really out of touch with yourself…..pop a piece in your mouth, close your eyes, and don’t chew!  Let it melt, and think of all the things in your life that you love!  This is a moment that you can create often….but for me, it happens once every few weeks.  I keep them far enough apart to really be thankful for them.

There is this coffee chain that is all around me….Tim Horton’s.  My drink of choice is a Cafe Mocha.  It’s half coffe, half hot chocolate…with whipped cream and chocolate slivers on top.  I love it!  I usually drink this with my friends, while we are out driving to nowhere.  But, every now and again, I get in my car, drive there, get one, and then take the first sip all by myself…..because that is my moment.

Moments of “me time” are really important.  They allow you to get back in touch with yourself.  Allow you to just be you.  There is no one there to judge….it’s just you.  It’s your moment.  Take a shower- with the lights off and a candle lit (but DO NOT TRY AND SHAVE DURING THIS TIME!!!!!!!!!).  Sip some coffee while journaling.  Put some music on and cuddle up with your pet.  Have a cookie from the package that you keep in your house but don’t allow yourself to eat.

Make time for you.
